Heart Association (AHA) along with other government agencies like Centres for Disease Control and
Prevention, the National Institutes of Health recently published the statistics
on heart disease which shows Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and stroke are the
major cause of death 1. According to World Health Organizations(WHO)
statistics, more than 17.7 million people died from CVD in 2015 which is around
31% of the global deaths. Of these deaths, an estimated 7.4 million were due
to coronary heart disease and 6.7 million were due to stroke 2. The survey
says that over three quarters of CVD deaths take place in developing countries.
Apart from CVD and stroke hypertension, obesity and smoking remains as a threat
to normal man. Year by year as the population ages, indefinite amount of
pressure is being placed on every countries health care system to deliver
quality treatment with reduced cost.
