Manobo,
the name may came from Mansuba from man (person or people) and suba (river), gist
river people. The first Manobo settlers lived in northern Mindanao, at present
Manobo tribes can be found at the hillsides and river valleys of the
northeastern part of Cotabato.

Manobo
tribe usually live in the mountainous places. Their tribe is a male dominated,
they mostly follow their men than women. “Datu” is one who becomes their tribe
leader. In their tribe like muslim they allowed men to marry more than one as
long as he could provide the needs of his family but then the first wife must
be remain as head wife.

Manobo
tribe also known as well-skilled in terms of traditional inventions, in our
place (Senator Ninoy Aquino) we celebrates annually the Sulok Festival to
recall and give importance to their tribe they use “Sulok” to catch or harvest
coffee, and among others.

While
in terms of spiritual beliefs like others they also believe in one God the
creator.

Nowadays
we couldn’t deny the fact that their tribe becomes more liberated and they were
colonized by some Christians. However, the traditional way of life has not over
for most Manobos, like any other tribal community in Mindanao, the Manobo have
faced many cultural tests in their past and will encounter even more in the
future. They strive to uphold their values and traditions even while living in
a current society, faced with new truths, ready to compete in the modern
economic world instead of the world of nature.
