Civics R.P.T. – Newspaper PortfolioFederal Government-Federal government should manage Alberta’s threatened caribou. The first article is from CBC news, it was posted November 28, 2017.The article is relevant to Federal Government because they are the only body of people that can do something about keeping caribou out of harm.In Alberta the caribou are slowly dying off and are in serious need of some sort of protection or law against killing caribou as we do not want them to go extinct and the people of Alberta are wanting the government to do something about it. Not only are they being hunted/killed it is also the oilsands and gas wells that are ruining the caribous habitat. “Despite the good efforts by some companies, there’s nothing right now that prevents a new oil and gas well or a new oilsands mine or a harvest cutblock from destroying critical habitat,” said Barry Robinson of Ecojustice.I personally think that the government should do something about this because we need to keep these species alive, and by ruining their habitats and ecosystems and such it could end up in going extinct.-‘Our collective shame’: Trudeau delivers historic apology to LGBT CanadiansThis article is also from CBC news, it was posted on November 28, 2017This article is relevant to Federal Government because it involves Justin Trudeau, our prime minister. In this article our prime minister Justin Trudeau apologizes to our LGBT+ community for years of mistreating them and discriminating them. “It is our collective shame that you were so mistreated. Local/Municipal GovernmentNiagara River is not a sewer: Gates to governmentThis article is from the Niagara Falls Review website and it was posted on December 27th. 2017 by Ray Spiteri. This article is relevant to Local/Municipal Government because it’s the government’s job to keep our waterways clean, so this is their problem.A public water board under fire for a July 29 discharge that turned the water below Niagara Falls black and smelly violated quality standards for another discharge 17 days later, state officials said on Friday, the sewage continued to spew out for a few days slowly but was causing a horrendous smell.I personally think that this should not be happening with all the taxes us fellow citizens pay to the government we shouldn’t be having these problems but it does happen and if it does they should definitely fix it faster than how long it took to clear it up.-Hamilton among 14 cities in Ontario getting the first legal cannabis shopsThis article is from the CHCH website and it was posted on December 28th, 2017 by Jamie Elto. This article is relevant to local government because it is about the city of Hamilton which is a local city, and what the government plans to do in that city. The province has named the first 14 cities where it will set up government-run marijuana stores this coming July. Although they didn’t talk about the type of reform they’re exploring, at least one organization is laying out a possible framework for them. The Power of Attorney Action Group recently called on the province to implement stand-alone legislation in New Brunswick — the only province in the country that doesn’t have it. I think that this is a bad idea because attorneys play a big part in a lot of situations so taking away some of the power he or she has may not be the best idea.Questions We need a government because without the government we would have no structure as a nation, we wouldn’t have a leader we would just have a big world without anybody to guide them or sort the problems out in the world. I also think that a big part of why we need government is because to protect the people’s natural rights. They are the ones who create our rights and protect them and make sure that they are enforced. The government also deals with criminals and such without a government our world as we know just wouldnt work out. There are many benefits to being an informed citizen and these are some of the most important and probably biggest reason as to why someone would choose to be an informed citizen. The most common benefit that many people like about being an informed citizen is the comfort of being informed of worldwide events 24/7. This is an appeal to many people because it gives them the idea that they have power, knowing that they know more than what some other people may know. The second common part of being an informed citizen is the fact that you have the inside scoop on everything. You may be one of the first people to know something important going on in the world and who can educate others about it. These benefits give people a sense of power which can help them to become more knowledgeable about their own self-interests.
