There are twobasic problems affecting vehicle handling: one is vehicle control in a desiredpath and the second is direction of stability in the motion of vehicle due toroad disturbances.
This paper presents adetailed study of handling characteristics of road vehicles which helpspreventing unexpected traffic accidents and undesired handling performance ofvehicles. IntroductionIn handlingcharacteristics of road vehicles, first of all the cornering effect of vehicleis most important characteristics with centrifugal force at low speed and thesteering is being effected by changing the direction of front wheels bysteering system. The relation between direction of the vehicle motion and thesteering wheel angle and the turning motion, at low speed, depends on thegeometry of steering linkages. The second most important characteristic ofhandling of vehicle is steady state handling characteristics. In thischaracteristic, during turn the vehicle is moving with constant turning radiuswith constant speed.
Steady state handling characteristics is mainly classifiedinto three categories: 1. Neutral steer 2. Under steer 3.Over steer.
When the vehicle turns in the directionexactly at which the steering is turned is called neutral steer. When thevehicle turns less sharply in the direction at which the steering is turned iscalled under steer. When the vehicle turns more sharply than it is intended inthe direction at which the steering is turned is called over steer.PlanningThis projectrequires reviewing the research papers which were published, compare differentscenarios during the time of riding a vehicle and gather the information aboutthe handling characteristics of road vehicles and study if any implementationcan be done in order to get more stability in driving even in uneven roadsurfaces and better ride comfort. During the semester, the cornering behaviourof vehicle and steady state handling characteristics will be analysed, which can be helpful to differentiate theterms neutral steer, under steer and over steer.
