Everyone the witches, Macbeth is at fault for

Everyone is hungry for something whether it is love, happiness, wealth, or even power. When that hunger is attained it could drive people to do mad, impulsive things.

Macbeth was hungry for power, so hungry that even took it as far as killing the innocent. Shakespeare clearly shows that the witches predicted that Macbeth will become king but they did not anticipate for Macbeth to take become king so soon. Macbeth is to blame for the tragedies that have occurred and for his own tragic downfall. Macbeth destroys himself for being selfish and impatient. He chose to believe the witches and instead of waiting for his time to come he foolishly went ahead to murder King Duncan. Even after he killed King Duncan, he proceeded to kill Banquo, and Macduff’s family on his own. Macbeth did not go with his conscience and knew what Lady Macbeth wanted him to do was wrong, but he still went ahead to murder King Duncan.

All of these instances led to the downfall of Macbeth. Although Macbeth is influenced by the witches, Macbeth is at fault for his own downfall. The witches told Macbeth that he will become king but they did not encourage for him to go murder King Duncan. He mindlessly believed the witches without any evidence. He did not ignore their prophecy like Banquo did, instead it floated in his mind. He even has the thought of murdering King Duncan, so he can make sure the witches prophecy comes true “I am Thane of Cawdor: If good, why do I yield to that suggestion / Whose horrid image doth unfix my hair And make my seated heart knock at my ribs,” (1.3.133-136).

Banquo even told him not to trust witches because they are never a good sign. That caused the plan to kill King Duncan to arise. Macbeth chose to listen to the witches, instead he could have just waited for his time to come to become king, but he intervened which is part of the reason the tragedy unfolded in Macbeth. Beyond the guilt that Macbeth felt, he continued to murder innocent people which is part of the reason that he is responsible for the tragedies that occur in Macbeth. He wanted to become king so bad that he did not think about the consequences, so he made sure nothing was in his way. Despite Lady Macbeth, putting the thought of murdering King Duncan into Macbeth’s mind, she did not tell him to murder other people.

/ False face must hide what the false heart doth know” (1.7. 80-82). If he wanted to be manly, he could have stood up for himself and tell her that she was wrong.

He didn’t listen to his conscience and that led him to do reckless things. Lady Macbeth wasn’t the one who killed King Duncan, it was Macbeth. Macbeth is responsible for his own actions.
