George H.W. Bush is a former republican president of the United States. His parents are Prescott Sheldon Bush and Dorothy Walker Bush. In 1945, he was married to Barbara Pierce. George Bush grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut. He graduated from was Phillips Academy. He joined the U.S. Naval Reserve in world war two and served as a torpedo bomber pilot from 1942 to 1944. He also graduated from Yale University in 1948. In 1979, Bush announced his candidacy for presidency but dropped out and supported Ronald Reagan. Reagan then chose him as the Vice President. On January 20, 1989, George H.W. Bush was sworn into the White House and became the president. The vice president he chose was Dan Quayle. He had beaten his opponent in the Democratic party. His name was Michael Dukakis. One famous thing that happened when Bush was president was the war in Iraq. It was known as the Persian Gulf War. Iraqi troops were in Kuwait and the U.S. went in to attack them and get them out. They also had a fear that Iraq may have chemical weapons. They won the war but the U.S. allies didn’t lose as many people as compared to Iraqi troops. The U.S. and its allies lost about 300 troops in the war but Iraq lost anywhere from 8,000 to 100,000 people. In 1989, Bush needed to topple the leader of Panama. He was Manuel Noriega. He was of service to the U.S. at one time but became a part of the drug trade. In just four days, hundreds were dead so the fight was stopped by the UN.George H.W. Bush was given one award during the war. When he served as a torpedo bomber, he was shot down. He was rescued and he was given the Distinguished Flying Cross.Bush ran for the re-election for president of the U.S., but he lost to Bill Clinton. In conclusion He may be a good president in some cases, but in most, I don’t think so. The Persian Gulf war had killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqi soldiers and people. It didn’t kill many Americans and it’s allied troops. They only lost about 300. It is the worst thing done by this president. In my opinion, they are not worthy of being remembered.
