In organizations, leadership is a managerial activity the purpose ofwhich is to direct the employees in one immediate chain of command toward theaccomplishment of work goals. Leadership represents a combination of behaviorsexhibited by one who occupies an elected, appointed, or designated position ofinfluence in a social system. Leadership behaviour is therefore officially sanctioned either formallyor informally and the leader is looked to for guidance and direction by thosewho recognize in his or her power. Leadership is increasingly understood toinvolve persuasion and explanation as well as ability to identify, affirm, andrenew the values of the group the leader represents. Managerial expertise,technical skills, cultural literacy and other relevant knowledge and skills arenot sufficient virtues for the leaders whose lives will be dedicated to publicservices.
An effective leader has a responsibility to provide guidance andshare the knowledge to the employee to lead them for better performance andmake them expert for maintaining the quality. And become head of all teammembers is such a great responsibility. The introduction of the clear standardsof leadership promotes the core values and maturity on their role andresponsibility.
So, the purpose of the researcher tomake observation on what are the good characteristics of leaders based on Islamperspectives. There are three purpose of this research. First, to identify the characteristicsof leaders based on Islam used toward organization. Second, to know why this isimportant about aspect on the characteristics of leaders based on Islamperspective to employee commitment. Lastly, to investigate the relationship andconnection between the characteristics of leaders based on Islam perspectivestowards organizational success. 1.4 STATEMENTOF THE PROBLEM Nowadays, work places are morecomplex and sophisticated requiring erudite leadership due to global economiccompetitiveness, as leaders are confronted with unpredictable challenges, whichrequire different degree of the leader’s roles and the characteristic. To thisday, it has been a lot of research on the concept of leadership has and isbeing carried out, which in turn produces differing findings in terms of theform of leadership practices that conform to the current situation andenvironment to be applied by leaders.
Effective organizations or management may be assumed to be achievablethrough leader’s behavior, which promotes employee’s commitment andproductivity and organizational success. Effective leadership is stronglyinfluenced by leaders’ roles, characteristic and personalities. Every leaderneeds to have aspects of personality that can support his efforts in realizinghuman relationships with members of his organization. The success or failure ofan organization is determined by many, one of which is the leadership that runswithin the organization.
