Functional design is the process of considering the needs or desires of the people who will use an item in a way that will allow their needs or wants to be met. Functional designs are both an outcome and a process. As an outcome, it describes products that work well to perform the tasks; as a process, the functional plans is a set of practices guided by the principles that produce that positive outcome.
The heart of every piece of any practical design, there is functionality and aesthetics, a task the item is expected to perform. There are still some essential elements a designer needs to take into consideration to create a product that best fulfills its intended function and aesthetic. The argument between the two, aesthetics and functionality is not necessary. I say that because any side you decide to go for is not wrong. In one design, you may need the aesthetic to work for you if you want an attractive piece, but it also depends on what you are aiming for and who eyes you want to catch.
Many people do not look for much on a poster. Some may see an advertisement and be attracted to it because it seems right or pleasing to look at. It is not what you say, but how you say it.On the other hand, you may need functionality to work for your design purpose. You may only want your design to accomplish the task of getting the viewer to acknowledge the piece you decided to put up.
