On the night of October 1, 2017, a gunman opened fire on a crowd of concertgoers at the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada, leaving 58 people dead and 546 injured. Just a month after Vegas mass shooting, on November 5, 2017.
26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelly killed at least 26 churchgoers and injured 20 others at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. It was the deadliest mass shooting in the state’s history. Also on January 6, 2017, five people were killed and eight others were injured when 26-year-old Esteban Santiago opened fire at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida. “According to Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit organization that continuously tracks gun-related death and injury reports based on official records, there have been 328 mass shootings in America in 2017 alone.”(Gun Violence Archive) Bear arms right also well known as the Second Amendment to the American Constitution. It has been created scenes the United States was founded at the beginning, but scenes the beginning there always mass shooting happened in America every year.
It also causes America become the highest gun homicides rate in the whole world. On average there are nearly 12,000 gun homicides a year in the U.S, and around 1300 people are the children. Also, the U.
S made up less than 5% of the population in the world, but it holds up more than 31% of global mass shooting. Therefore in my personal opinion, people should protest gun right and support gun control. Because more gun control laws would reduce gun deaths, and m gun control leads to fewer suicidesSupport gun control law would reduce more gun deaths. If all the example that I list before did not even surprise you, then let me show you some compared with some non-firearms country. Americans are 10 times more likely to be killed by guns than people in other developed countries, a new study finds. Also, United States’ gun-related murder rate is 25 times higher compared to other 22 high-income countries. For example in 2010, a research found that in America in every 1 million people, there are over 100 people were killed by the gun.
In Netherland, there are less than 7 people were killed by the gun in every 1 million people, and compared to Japan, no one gets killed by the gun in every 1 million people. “Most American gun owners (two-thirds) say a major reason they own a gun is for their personal protection, according to the Pew study. However, the majority of America’s firearm-related deaths are attributed to self-harm.”(CNN) It is undeniable that the establishment of the Second Amendment is for self- protection, but many research and data has been showed that people who own the gun at home are 25 times more likely to kill or hurt the families and friends. And in today’s society more people are using the gun to commit the crime, so if people in America keep support Second Amendment, there are more people will get hurt by the gun. In addition support gun control law can reduce gun deaths. Also supporting gun control law can leads less fewer suicides..
Gun control law can leads fewer suicides. A research has been found that between 1999 and 2013, there were more than 270,000 gun homicides in United State. Accounting for about 52% of all suicides during those years. According to a Mar. 2014 study published in the International Review of Law and Economics, “when gun ownership went down in the United States, overall suicide rates went down”. Also between 2000 to 2010, there are 61% of the gun death are related to firearm suicide in America. And lets compared to Japan, Japanese gun suicide rate is one-fiftieth of America’s, but the overall suicide rate is twice as high as America’s.
So what makes a high suicides rate country only have few firearm suicides? The answer is because of their gun control. A Dec. 2009 study published in Health Policy, found “general barrier to firearm access created through state regulation can have a significant deterrent effect on male suicide rates in the United States. Permit requirements and bans on sales to minors were the most effective of the regulations analyzed.”
