They like to plan the trip planner according to their interest such as where to
go or when to go. First step to plan the trip planner will need to get the
information of the destination. Ways to get the information can be using the
search engines on the website, tourist guidebook or get the information from
the traveller went to that destination before or receive the information from
friends and family. Search engines can be Google or Yahoo. There are some
technique and technologies that can use to developing the trip planning system
which are data collection and analysis of the point of interest(POIs), global
positioning system(GPS), web-based application and programming language or

will face some challenges when they go the unknown city or region. One of the
challenges they will face is identify which tourist attraction want to go (Lim, et al.,
2016). Traveller
want to plan the customize the trip planner will receive huge amount of
information. According to the Benouaret & Lenne(2016), the large amount of
the information will hard to analyse by the traveller.

to solve the problem of the huge amount of information can be filter out the not
interested POIs to let user to choose. It can be using the geo-tagged photo and
analysing these photo upload by traveller to calculate the popularity of that
place and calculate the average duration of traveller visit this POI and group
the POI categories. Geo-tagged photo is the photo that include the location
details (Okuyama, et
al., 2013). The first
step of the data collection is collect all the photo taken from that place,
when the photo taken at that place and who take that pictures.

second step was analysis the popularity of these POIs. It can analyse by
calculate the number of photo taken at that place. Most of the photo taken at
that place means that place is popular to traveller. Moreover, it also can
calculate the average time traveller stay at that POIs. The longer time
traveller stay at that place means that place is more interesting to the
traveller. Besides that, it also can calculate the time from the first and last
photo that upload by the traveller. To group the POIs together in to the category
can use the Wikipedia information. The category can group as shopping,
entertainment, cultural and so on  (Lim, et al., 2016).

Global Positioning System(GPS) and
Geo-tagged photo

the traveller went to that city or region, they will take some travel photo and
share to the social media such as Facebook. They use image to share the travel
experience to another traveller. Geo-tagged photo is a photo that include the
location tag and keyword tag. It is a process to combine the geographical
identification data into the photo and video (Zheng, et
al., 2012). Nowadays,
current smart camera and smart phone have the build in GPS function. When the
users take the photo using these devices, these photos will include the GPS
information. And these photos can become the geo-tagged photo. Researcher can
analyse these geo-tagged photos to get the information about the traveller
preference (Leung, et al., 2016).

geo-tagged photo also can recommend the best route to the destination for the
traveller. Search for the destination popularity and shorter distance to get
the best route recommendation for the traveller (Memon, et al., 2014).

GPS can let user to easily find the information of that place such as hotel,
restaurant, POIs, etc (Cavus &
Kefas, 2014).
Users can use the GPS to search for the nearest place based on the user search.
It also is a good way for traveller to find the optional route and suggestion
route to the nearest POIs on that city or region.

Customized the trip planner

trip planning system can let user to customize the trip planner. Traveller have
the good trip planner when travelling can avoid the wasting time and also can
enjoy the trip. To plan the trip planner will need user to input some
information which are travel time, budget and the hotel. After getting the user
information, system will search the geographical information in the database.
System will have based on the user input information to analyse the user
preference and plan the suitable trip planner for the user (Chiang & Huang, 2015).

trip planner based on the user requirement. SRM can calculate the popularity of
that place, distance between these destinations and calculate the estimate

Web- based application and programming

to the (Borras, et
al., 2014),most of the
trip planning system was developed as the web based application. This type of
interface will more user-friendly for user to use. User will easily to look for
the information in the large and wide screen. Besides that, user can use the
mouse to control the things in the web application. Compare to using the tablet
or mobile phone and the computer, the computer will more good to use for. It is
because the mobile phone or tablet are smaller than the computer. According to Patri et al.(2015), the platform use for the
trip planning system are internet platform. The programming language that use
to develop the application are HTML and JavaScript.

problem of the route planning problem that faced by the tourist can be related
to a tourist trip design problem(TTDP). It can solve the problem when the
tourist visits more than one point of interest(POI). TTDP can be separated into
two parts which are one trip problem and multiple trip problem. One trip
problem is used to help the user to find the most optimum route from one place
to another place in the limited time and the travel budget. Multiple trip
problem is to find the optimum route from one place to multiple places.

the proposed algorithm to solve the trip design problem(TTDP) is using the
balanced orienteering problem(BOP). Balanced orienteering problem(BOP) is focus
on the time when travelling in another city and region. It will consider the time
use at that place in the limited travel time. The travel time can separate into
2 group which are the time from one place to another place and the time at that
place for the sightseeing. To improve the current algorithm to decrease the processing


To conclude these technique, the
data collection and analysis, global positioning system(GPS) and geo-tagged photo,
customized trip planner and web-based application and programming language can be
used to develop the trip planning system. These techniques and technologies can
decrease the workload from the traveller before they go to travelling. Therefore,
this project will develop a planning system for the traveller as a web application
to help them plan the customize trip planner and find the POIs.
