His parents were Milton Wright (November 17th 1828- April 3rd 1917) and Susan Catherine Koerner (1831- July 4th 1889). He was the third child out seven in his family. He had two older brothers Reuchlin Wright (1861-1920) and Lorin Wright (1862-1939). He had four younger siblings as well.

Wilbur’s father Milton was a bishop at the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. Wilbur’s childhoodWilbur Wright was a very studious and intelligent child, who did very well in school. His personality very outgoing and robust. When Wilbur was younger his companion when he was often younger brother Orville. When Wilbur was about 11 in 1878 his father Milton brought home a toy plane as a gift.
Now because Milton was bishop his faith led him on the road a lot. So when he would return home he would usually have gifts for the children. This time was no exception, except for the fact that this toy, this model would be the start of the Wilbur and Orville’s obsession with aviation and possibly the biggest reason for what we call modern day aviation. The toy was a model of French aviation pioneer (Al-fons Peno’s)Alphonse Pénaud’s Planophore. In the winter of 1885-1886 Wilbur was injured during a game of ice hockey, when another players stick struck him in the face.
Despite majority of his injuries healing Wilbur was spun into a depression. This caused him to cancel his plans for college. For a period of time he spent much time at his family’s home. Well at home Wilbur would lots of books for his family’s library. He would also care for his mother, who passed away in 1889 due to tuberculosis. West Side News and the Evening Item In 1889 Wilbur and younger brother Orville started a newspaper called the West Side News it was a weekly paper. Wilbur was the editor and Orville was the publisher. After a year the brothers decided to change the paper from a weekly to a daily.
Renaming it the evening Item. Unfortunately the Evening Item folded after just three months.WRIGHT CYCLE COWright Cycle Co. was a bicycle shop the brothers opened in Dayton,Ohio after the newspaper folded. At the shop Wilbur and Orville would sell, rent and fix bicycles. But after some time they started to manufacture their own designs as well. The Wright Flyer On the 17th of December 1903 the Wright brothers made aviation history when Orville Wright was the first person in modern aviation to fly.
It happened in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. When the Wright flyer first flew it flew about 120ft in about 12 seconds. But during another flight that day it flew about 852ft in about 57 seconds.
Unforntally for the Wright flyer though that day would be the last time it flew. After a large gust of wind flipped the aircraft multiply times damaging it beyond repair. The Wright brothers were very media concese in fact that had a plan with their father, Older brothers and younger sister. The plan was for the brothers to send a telegram back to Dayton,Ohio and then Katherine would walk it to the Dayton Journal. But when they sent the telegram and Katherine walked it to the Dayton Journal the man running it said “57 seconds come back when it’s 57 minutes.” according to History.com. EuropeIn 1908 after not finding much success in the states Wilbur set out for Europe in hopes of having an easier to selling airplanes and interesting the public.
This because, in the states many refused to believe him or some where just simply unimpressed with the flight time. Well in France, Wilbur had a much easier time in selling the idea to the public. This causing him to make many public flights and even give rides to some. After having much succession in Europe, Wilbur decided to return to the states in 1909.
May 25th 1910Wilbur and Orville had made one promise to their father, that promise was that they would not fly together. This because their father was scared that if the plane crashed he would lose both of them. So that why they didn’t fly together. Until May 25th 1910 when their made one exception to his rule, allowing the brothers to one flight together.
